Yesterday I went to cinema with a few friends to watch James Cameron's
Dances With Smurfs Avatar movie. I really had a hard time deciding whether to go or not. But man, I'm a sucker for good world design and spending an evening with my friends before Christmas holidays also didn't sound like the worst idea.

So yeah, my spoiler free review:
The VisualsI have to admit Avatar is one of the prettiest movies I've seen so far. It is really really beautiful and Cameron did a great job with his world design. It is freakin' awesome and from an artistic point of view you'll love all the eye candy.
If this is all that you want from this movie, stop reading here. Go to the movie, switch off your brain and enjoy the show. You will have a nice evening, promised!
If you rather watch movies for the story than the special effects here's the big BUT...
The StoryOh good lord, where to begin? If you have ever watched Dances with Wolves, Pocahontas, Fern Gully or anything along these lines Avatar won't surprise you at all. You know from the very beginning what is happening, you will know what will happen as the story develops and you will know how it ends. Heck, you even will know who dies along the way. Ugh.
Cameron is really following a bunch of tropes so closely that it hurts. He's throwing a cliché storm at you with no mercy at all. You cannot find cover. Don't even try.
ConclusionVisuals YAY - Story NAY
Just for the heck of it XD

It had to at least some originality to it. God forbid a race in my book has blue skin and they're called Smurfs too. xD
But otherwise - the visuals, the setting, the world design and the like - it is quite original. Just not the people and what they are doing...
