About me

1. Who are you?
My name is Sabrina, I'm 25 years old and a student currently living in Hamburg, Germany. My major is Japan Studies, my minors are Art History and currently Law. I'm planning to finish my studies somewhen in 2001 with a Magister Artium (<-- fancy Latin title, simply means "Master of Arts" - which is also pretty cool actually).

2. What is your artistic passion?
I love stories and so I love basically every form of artworks that is related to stories like illustration, concept arts, character portraits, comics and whatnot. So it's probably not surprising that my artworks are usually covering that kind of stuff.
I currently prefer to work digitally - mainly because I don't have the space and money for traditional paintings. But I also still draw a lot with my pencil on good old paper. :3

3. Why did you get into art?
There were several factors that came together when I was around 13.
1st) I noticed that I liked drawing stuff.
2nd) It was also around that time when I once forgot to bring my art supplies to art classes. The teacher thought it would be an appropriate punishment to copy the text of a book about one of those old dead artists. It was about Dürer and the fact that he started to draw and paint awesome stuff at a young age kept me interested enough to read through the whole text and wishing that I could do that too one day.
3rd) I was a teen, it was the 90's - of course I loved Sailor Moon! And manga/anime in general. So I started out with drawing a lot of manga styled stuff.

4. How do you inspire yourself?
Most common answer: Music. Needs no explanation, I think.
Second most common answer: Art. Artworks, art books, artists, what have you.

5. Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years?
First of all I'd like to have my fancy title by then, lol. A job to pay my bills would be nice as well.
Art-wise I'd love to study again - this time illustration. But that depends on my financial situation. Apart from that I hope I can make some real progress on my projects and perhaps even make some money from my art. But it's still a long way to go so I don't really know what will be in 5 years.

Miscellaneous

The new semester has started and I already have pile of work on my desk. :ohnoes:
This semester I really need to work my ass of. But I hope I'll still have some time for arts left.

In Concert

Faith Power and Glory

Man, what a night! For our anniversary we didn't go to a restaurant - no, we went to a concert. To be precisely a concert of VNV Nation's Faith Power and Glory Tour 2009 in Hamburg. This was so freakin awesome! :la:

Supporting acts were Solar Fake (did not know them and did not impress me much, but they were okay) and Rotersand <-- love these guys! So with VNV was the main act it was like 2 of my fave bands in one concert! Yay! They played like all my favourite songs, haha. The music was great and the atmosphere was even better. They also did record the VNV set for the upcoming DVD. So if you happen to be a VNV fan and want to buy the tour DVD you might see me somewhere in the crowd.

Some of yesterday's songs for you to listen on youtube (if you're interested)
Caution! Electronic music ahead! XD

Artsy Stuff

I'm sorry that I'm pretty much inactive as for now. My schedule for my last essay is pretty much effed up and have to find a way how to finish that thing in time. :ohnoes:

On other notes: =photoshop-tutorials asked for my permission to post my tutorials. Seems they're somewhat helpful after all!

7 Years

Time goes by so fast...

Stefan and I are celebrating our 7th anniversary today.

My goodness, those 7 years went by so fast. We first became friends in highschool and then a few months later we were a couple. We made our graduation together, then went though one year of jobbing + military service (the latter just for him) and finally moved to Hamburg 5 years ago. And we even went to Japan together for 6 months. Geez, already one year has passed since we arrived in Osaka and 6 months since we're back home!

As you can see, we spend almost every day together. And contrary to common believe we still enjoy being around each other even after such a long time. So honestly, I have no idea what a lot of people are talking about when they say Everything will be different after some weeks! or I couldn't be around my bf/gf for so long. He/she drives me nuts. I need more freedom! or something along these lines. Yay, lucky me! :meow:

It actually helps a lot when your bf was your friend before anyway. If you know someone from your all day life and still want to spend time with that person, there's not much to fear. :tighthug:

Bills after bills...

Oh my, August is almost over and while basically nothing special happened (yeah, my life is boring like that) it was hella expensive.

Reason: I have glasses now!
We noticed that I was myopic and it got worse since last year up to the point where the stuff that a professor was writing at the board was getting all blurry. So yeah, it was about time. In the end I choose a broad fancy frame. I also got a haircut - but my hair is hella curly now after a few days. Oh my. Haha, this is how I look now:

My sweetheart also needed new glasses. All in all we had to pay about 600EUR - cause glasses are one of the few things the normal health insurance doesn't pay you. Dammit.

Next month will be equally expensive with about 630EUR university fees. :ohnoes:

Not sure what to do about it. We'll see...

Semester is over... almost

So last week I had my last seminars for this summer semester. Finally summer break is here! But not much time to celebrate yet. Of course there's still a lot to do:
  • Aug. 3rd: test in Civil Law about the basics in German Civil Code
  • until Aug. 31st: essay about Albrecht Dürer's Self-portrait from 1498
  • until Oct.: essay about the influence of profane Chinese painting style on sacral Japanese paintings during the Asuka and Nara period (or something like that)
  • ???: essay about Samuel Bing Has been taken care of. The docent didn't want to have one. Got a "Very Good" for my presentation. O_o

As for now I have a more or less tight schedule. For the next two weeks I need to learn for the test, then write the first essay during August and finally work on the last essay in September and October. I think that might work! :3

Wasting some time first!

Despite my schedule I took some days off last weekend and went to Atreia, the world of Aion!

I haven't told you, but I'm participating in the Aion beta tests which are held like every two weeks at the weekend. This weekend was the 4th out of 6 planned so far. After that there will be an open beta event and finally the release in September.

So for the whole weekend I was curling up in front of my PC with sweets and tea and testing the hell out of this game together with my sweetheart and a befriended guild (that we'll most likely join after the release - nice dudes and girl(s?)). What can I tell you? If you like pretty MMORPGs you've probably heard of it by now. It's super pretty - actually the first that is on par with Guild Wars! imho - and makes a lot of fun. Made a bunch of characters after the likeliness of my OCs. lol

Forgot to make some nice screenshots - if you're curious have a look on the various Aion fanpages. There are already a buttload on the internet. :3

Commissions anyone?

During the last weeks I was asked several times if I do commissions. That really really makes me happy! One of the best compliments you can make a poor artist. x3

Anyway I'm pretty new to the commission business, so if anyone likes to help me with setting up price lists and all that pesky stuff, I'd be very grateful! (If you don't want to talk about it here, you can also note me, of course.)

Ok then. C ya!
