When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.

Hi thar! Me again.
Next random pick from my sketchbook to slap some paint on it. A little more challenging today, haha. Thus I'm not finished with it, yet. But it's getting late and tomorrow I'll go visit my parents for the weekend. So I thought I might give you as well the WIP and ask for some feedback. I still have flaws in anatomy so I'd be very thankful for some constructive critic on everything that might look weird. Redlines are welcome as well. ---------------------------------------------------- Update Aug 7th: End in sight! First time in 2 months that I have the feeling I can finish this painting. Corrected the crucial parts like anatomy and that little piece of wood in his hand. The latter finally looks like wood! Yay! XD Also painted the background. Still need to add some little details like some texture here and there but all in all I'm quite content with it. I also like the somewhat impressionist feeling so I won't polish up the rough texture. :3 So for the final spurt, please tell me if there are still some parts that look wonky or something and that I'd have to correct no matter what. Commentsi'm not painting expert or anything, but it looks good. He's in proportion, and there is lots of texture. THe folds in his shirt also look natural. I can't wait to see it done!
-- My artistic goal for now: To be able to draw huge noses on people and get away with it. Sounds like some sick fetish... ---- Pencil FTW! ---- Sweet avatar made by [link] Fantastic work! It looks like you're loosening up a whole lot, just seeing the bold strokes in this one is a great step forwards. Seems like you've started to think more in colour, shape and mood rather than strictly outlines
Hmm, crits. Well, one thing that struck me is that the left shoulder (his right)) seems a bit bulky and possibly too large. That's really all I can see anatomy-wise. Also, old and large man are a bit out of my comfort zone so I'm not entirely sure what's right and such! I really love the colours, they're really natural and somewhat muted, but the bright greens make up for that. Only thing regarding that is his skin colour. I know I've pestered you with this before, but it's a bit monotonous. Try adding a little more variety in the hues. Here ([link]) is an interesting little insight on skintones by Linda Bergkvist! Otherwise I really love his face, the shading is wonderful and his expression too. It seems like there are some highlights missing so far, but I know you're far from done Sorry if that was too long :3 Have fun at your parents! -- "Assiduus usus uni rei deditus et ingenium et artem saepe vincit" - Cicero Thanks a lot for the long feedback! (Nothing wrong with that! ^^)
Thinking in colour rather than outlines is still hard for me. For the first blocky colours I still had the sketch. Cannot do without lines yet! Yes, the shoulder was also bothering me. Though I'm not sure how to fix this. Most of the bulkiness is probably caused by the wide sleeves...? (I fail at painting clothes!) Also agree on the colours - currently I'm just using brown and green tones due to the lighting. Probably a bit boring. Wish you a nice weekend! -- Victory not Vengeance Oh that's right, you painted over a sketch. Still, the draftmanship looks very confident so I'd say you're definitely getting there
Yeah, I'm not entirely sure either how to fix the shoulder. Could be the drapery, you're right. Hm, that's definitely not my strong point either so I fail at crit. But if you could somehow make his arm behind the sleeve more visible, that is, so people could see clearly where his arm ends and the drapery start, that might solve it? I'm just putting stuff out there! Oh and I really love the colours, wasn't really critting the environment! I think the brown and greens look wonderful together. Although, it wouldn't hurt to put some extra colour on the guy to focus more on him. Unless you rather want him to fade into the background? Thank you! I hope I'll start getting more productive these days ^^ -- "Assiduus usus uni rei deditus et ingenium et artem saepe vincit" - Cicero |
