"From the beginning I knew that was a bad idea to jump. As I plunged into the water I completely lost my bearings. A strong current pulled me down into the depths. I tried to find a way up. No chance. I tried to suppress the reflex to breath. And lost. I felt how my lungs filled with water. And then it ended. No panic, no pain, no sorrow left. Just... peace."

You may guess who it is and what has happened...
The description itself was inspired by a story a friend of mine has told me once. I was pretty shocked and fascinated at the same time when she told me that she almost drowned as a child and how it felt like. A shiver ran down my spine.

For the picture itself I was experimenting with light and darkness. I also reduced the details to the substance of what I wanted to paint. First I wanted to add some stones on the ground or algae - but the unknown darkness worked much better.
This is really great - I just saw it on the Hower site. The light fading into dark is really well done, so are the bubbles. I can really feel the plunge into the cold water... It was a good idea to have only the body and the water, anything else might distract.
Excellent illustrations!
You renderend the bubbles very well, and I love the color choice, it gives to the picture the right cold and frightening feeling.

We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
