Damian Portrait Walkthrough by Pretty-Angel Damian Portrait Walkthrough by Pretty-Angel
Another walkthrough - this time with more steps! Not sure if this is more helpful but we'll see.

And as usual: If you have any questions please ask!
(Hey, maybe I can even make a tutorial about that. XD)

Edit: here's the link to the brush set up video [link]

What happened to the blue highlights on his face? They just disappeared as the painting progressed. For the hair, I think you should block it in with a very dark gray and build it up to the white. Maybe that way the roots will seem to have more depth.

This is almost a year old - I don't remember but I suppose I thought the blue was a bit too much.
I'm not really sure what you're talking about regarding the hair. Using a dark grey for the shadows instead of the lighter value I used would result in salt 'n' pepper hair and that's not really the effect I was hoping for.

I mean just using a dark grey base and then building the white hair on top.

It still would result in a salt 'n' pepper look. :C

Hoho I just noticed through the process here that the blue-ish green background really brings out his eyes.
Not to mention the color interaction on his back and front :B
Interesting what you can pull out through the process!

Indeed, it does! :3
Yes, this is exactly what I meant earlier: plan ahead and it gets easier to put these things into your painting. Fancy light effects are pretty much depending on your background.
